Discovery of Novel and New Record Species of Yeast from Freshwater and Soil Habitats in Korea

During a survey of yeast species diversity in different environments, five yeast strains were isolated from the freshwater samples collected at Gwangju and Jeonju, as well as from a soil sample collected at Daegyeong island, Yeosu, Korea. Based on morphological observations and molecular analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (LSU) rDNA regions, three strains were identified as new species belonging to genera Debaryomyces, Saccharomycopsis and Wickerhamomyces, while two strains, Geotrichum pandrosioniae, G. sinense were newly recorded species in Korea. This poster provides comprehensive descriptions of the morphological, physiological, and cultural characteristics, as well as the phylogenetic status of the species.
